When I was a young girl, living in Idaho, at about 12 years old, I had the job of picking weeds in our families’ flowerbeds.  We had a large, beautiful home at that time, that rested in the corner lot of a cul de sac.  It was our families’ dream home.

When my parent’s were at work during the day, I also went to work pulling weeds from the flower beds.  I didn’t know a lot about God at that time, some, but not much.  I had been to church a few times, but didn’t really know who He was.  While I was alone in the garden, I would spend time praying and asking Him questions.  I got the growing sense that He was more than just a story, or a figure-head, but that He was real.

Fast forward twenty five years.  I live in the desert of Arizona and I never garden.  Ever.    But I still pray.  This morning before I got out of bed, I opened up my heart in prayer to ask another version of the same request: Reveal Your Will.  The relationship that began twenty-five years ago, today, has blossomed into a deep, and loving friendship.  Here are some of the things that I have learned along that personal quest.

1. God is love.  He is total, absolute and complete Love.  It is not possible to lose His love for me, care for me, and 100% investment in me.  He IS me, everywhere, in, around and throughout.  The same substance that makes up His being, LIGHT, lives in my cells and my soul.  This reality I can never be separated from.  If I feel separation, I am confused. When I am clear, I KNOW this.

2. People don’t know anything.  They cannot know the past, except through a skewed lens of personal perception and they have no idea of the future.  The PRESENT MOMENT is a portal that allows us to step out of the clouded contents of the mind and into experience and vision.  The mind of man is nothing.  The “don’t know” mind is powerful point of access because when you release your addiction to facts and data–what you think you know–and OPEN your HEART to seek TRUTH, you have PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with Deity.  KNOWING comes from personal EXPERIENCE.

3. The DIVINE WILL is all that matters.  I have ONE PLAN, and only ONE GOAL.  Follow the will of God.  This is also MY WILL.  My greatest desires are fulfilled in God’s will for me.  This is an act of total agency and personal choice.  The Divine Guidance system that operates IN ME and in the UNIVERSE, leads always to My Highest Good.  It can lead ONLY to my Highest Good–because the Love of the Creator is so absolute it couldn’t lead me anywhere else.  Following DIVINE WILL is the only worthwhile objective, because in it–every good thing I want for myself is fulfilled.

4. Jesus Christ is a real being, that LIVES today in full heart, life and measure.  I have heard His voice and experienced His presence.  An experience with HIM is to feel TOTAL and ABSOLUTE COMPLETION.  There is no separation between us and it is as though He is in My cells and I am in His heart and we have never been apart from each other.  His VOICE is FIRE.  It is calm with a piercing resonance that speaks through the center of the Soul and lights it ablaze with one whisper.  I would gladly exchange all that I have to spend even a few more seconds close to Him.  He is the ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE.  The total affection of my heart, mind and will rests solely upon Him.  All that I desire to achieve in this world is to live inside that LOVE and FIRE.  There is nothing that could compare in the slightest measure the one second of being in His presence.  It…is…ALL.

1. LIGHT is everywhere. It is the material and substance we are MADE of, along with everything else on this earth.  This LIGHT is from a Supreme Creator, and makes us ONE with all that is. Light is also LOVE.

2. There is no harm that can be done to us. Forgiveness is complete when you realize that the other person actually never harmed you, they only harmed themselves. When we think another has injured us, we are confused about the situation.  Our thoughts are what cause our suffering, not the situation itself.  Pain is inevitable at times, but suffering is a choice.

3. Christ is the most powerful experience I have ever had with Divinity. My personal experiences with Christ this year left me with such love, fire, and feeling of ABSOLUTE completion that afterwards I felt that being with HIM is all I could ever want or desire, and there is nothing else on this earth that can hold even the slightest comparison.  For me, HE is Truly, the ULTIMATE, Supreme desire of existence.

4. People do not need you to help them.  If they think they “need” you, they are confused and if *you* think they need you, you are in a subtle state of ego. Be love, and total compassion, and see the God-self in every other person and their OWN capacity to CREATE and liberate themselves– and then you will know what to do.  You will also know what *not* to do when it comes to helping people, because when you see them as whole and eternally capable,  you do not dishonor them by feeling sorry for them.  You empower them instead.

5. Never ever ever ever seek to prove yourself. You do not need to prove that you are good enough. The moment you try to prove yourself, you have already dishonored yourself, because you are coming from the belief that you are not enough.  Competition and comparison is total madness and is a game of suffering that can never be won.  Love yourself, choose in favor of yourself, see the best in all that you do and be so quick to forgive yourself that shame never rests on your shoulders. Be accountable for your actions, and change if required, but never embarrassed.  If you learn, there is no such thing as a mistake.

Not many people know this about me, but I grew up in a home of alcoholism. In fact, 9 years ago this month, my father died of a drug overdose, virtually homeless in Idaho.

All of his possessions fit inside a single cardboard box.

Everyday I am thankful for LOVE, LIGHT, and HEALING.

I am grateful for my father and what he taught me. He really believed that his life had a purpose and he wanted to help people.  He was so bound by his own demons and addictions that he wasn’t able to fulfill that purpose to a measure that some people might call successful…although I feel he was.  Many years after he died, I sat listening to a music concert of Vince Gill (country music fan, yes, I am) and he told the story of his brother who had died early of a heart attack.  His brother had struggled his whole life with uncommon challenges.  As he sang the song, Go Rest High on that Mountain, I was given understanding beyond what my mind had understood.

God taught me that my father struggled with challenges I had no concept of, or reference point for, and he had truly done all that he could with his life while on this earth.  When that experience was over, it was time for him to go home.  I felt deep love for my father and tremendous gratitude and let go of him…a second time, this time with deeper love and gratitude
